The Ghana Highway Authority was initially established under NRC Decree 298 in December 1974. This has been superseded by Act 540 of December 1997 to reflect changes, which have occurred in the road sub-sector. GHA is charged with the responsibility for the administration, development and maintenance of trunk roads and related facilities in the country.
Mission Statement
To provide a safe and reliable trunk road network at optimal cost by taking advantage of modern technology in road building,
maintenance and new income-generating methods to facilitate socio-economic development in the country. |

Developmental Projects In the Pipeline: Three (3) roads and two bridge development projects were at various stages of preparation for future implementation. They were: Roads: i. Akatsi-Noepe - 30km ii. Akatsi-Aflao - 56km iii. Dodo Pepesu-Nkwanta (47km) Bridges: i. Kasoa Interchange ii. Bridge Devt Programme Ph 4 (7 No.Bridges over River Birim, River Nimpeni, River Ochi, River Asuboni, River Amenfeso, River Sissili, and River Kalangmna) |

Do's and Don'ts of the Highways To the drivers Drivers must observe posted speed limit signs to save the lives of road users particularly pedestrians and cyclist. Priority must be given to all vulnerable road users particularly the aged, disabled or physically challenged and children. No use of mobile phones during driving. Don’t drink and drive and don’t drive and drink. |
